Overview - Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu 5 Days

Take on one of Peru’s great mountain journeys with our Salkantay Trek 5 Days to Machu Picchu, a multi-day adventure through dramatically changing landscapes on the way to the famous Inca citadel.

The experience begins among the snow-covered mountains surrounding Soraypampa and Humantay Lake before climbing to the high point of the trek at Salkantay Pass, approximately 4,650 meters (15,256 ft).

From the high Andes, the route gradually descends into a completely different world of cloud forest, orchids, coffee plantations, waterfalls, tropical vegetation, and warmer valleys.

Rather than following the regulated Classic Inca Trail, this journey uses the alternative Salkantay route and continues through Playa Sahuayaco, Llactapata, Hidroelectrica, and Aguas Calientes. Machu Picchu admission is still organized in advance because access to the archaeological sanctuary depends on ticket and circuit availability.

Professional guiding, trekking meals, horse-supported logistics, accommodation along the route, safety equipment, and a hotel night in Aguas Calientes are coordinated throughout the experience.

With both economical overland and comfortable tourist-train return options available, the 5 Day Salkantay Trek offers a flexible way to combine challenging hiking, extraordinary landscapes, and Machu Picchu in one complete Andean adventure.
