Detailed Itinerary

DAY 01

Cusco - Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu

Your Machu Picchu Full Day by Train starts before sunrise with pickup from your hotel in Cusco, generally between 3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. From there, you will travel by vehicle to Ollantaytambo Train Station, where you will board the train that will take you toward Machu Picchu Pueblo.

During the train ride, enjoy a constantly changing landscape as the route follows the Urubamba River and passes between impressive mountains, traditional agricultural areas, and increasingly lush vegetation. As you approach Machu Picchu, the scenery gradually transforms into the green cloud-forest environment characteristic of this part of the Andes.

Once you arrive in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), you will make your way to the bus station and take the shuttle bus up the winding mountain road to the entrance of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, situated at approximately 2,430 meters (7,972 ft) above sea level.

After entering the archaeological site, you will join your professional guide for an approximately 2 to 2½-hour guided visit. Throughout the tour, your guide will explain the history of Machu Picchu, the achievements of Inca engineering and architecture, and the cultural and spiritual importance of the citadel while you explore the areas included in your assigned entrance route.

At the end of your guided visit, you will take the shuttle bus back down to Aguas Calientes. Depending on the departure time of your return train, you may have some free time to have lunch at a restaurant, explore the town, browse the local markets, or simply relax before continuing your journey.

Later, you will return to the train station and board your scheduled train back to Ollantaytambo. During the journey, you can enjoy the mountain scenery once more before arriving at the station.

Upon arrival in Ollantaytambo, our transportation will be waiting for you. You will then continue by vehicle back to Cusco, with drop-off at your hotel or another previously coordinated location.

The exact arrival time in Cusco will vary according to the train schedule confirmed for your booking, marking the end of your Machu Picchu Full Day Tour by Train.
